How To Use Stone-Textured Panels for Dramatic Design

Stone shelving that holds books, a bird decoration, a glass bottle and a decorative dish with woven spheres in it.

There is something evocative about stone — it gives off a sense of strength, shielding and protection that makes it ideal for home or business. Seemingly impervious to changing fashions, gorgeous stone wall and furniture designs can be found in indoor spaces from centuries ago all the way to modern showrooms.

Unless you live in a home built (or partially built) from stone, you might struggle to get the coveted classical look that the material offers, especially if you’re not willing to knock down a wall and replace it with a stone one.

Thankfully, there is an alternative that allows you to incorporate the sophisticated look of stone without the hassle. Stone-textured wall and furniture panels are extremely popular for fashionable and functional interior design.
At Panasphere, our Aura product line is exclusively dedicated to the stone look. They exhibit the traditional look and feel of several types of stone while being cost conscientious. Our gorgeous Italian designs will turn any space you have into a timeless room for you to enjoy for years and years to come.

Combining the classic look and feel of stone with the practicality and affordability of other materials, stone-textured wall panels can be a great addition to your interior design project.

Examples of Stone-Textured Panels in Interior Design

There are innumerable ways to use stone-textured decorative panels to create an eye-catching design. The bold, striking look of stone makes it the ideal material for central features as well as for a variety of other purposes.

The practical benefits of TFL panels, such as the convenience of shaping and installing them in almost any indoor space, make paneling an attractive choice. Here are a few examples of how these interior design panels can be combined.

Spacious Kitchen With Stone-Textured Features

Large kitchen with floor to ceiling windows on the walls, a large stone island and dining room table and chairs to the far left of the room.

These stone-textured wall panels from our Aura products display the clean, modern look of the Royal Seal texture. The marble-like surface of the feature wall reflects the natural light from the windows opposite, making this kitchen feel bright and spacious.

The granite effect of the central worktop/dining area provides a visual counterbalance and brings a sense of rigidity and function to the space. The practical considerations are also notable — these stone-textured surfaces are highly resistant to chips and scratches and easy to wipe and clean after food has been prepared.

Coastal Patterned Wall

The natural flowing lines form a pattern on this Meerut texture that evokes rocky beaches, the sound of waves and the smell of the sea air. Despite bringing a touch of nature and the coast to any room, they are smooth, timeless and practical.

The juxtaposition between the horizontal lines of the dark wood grain floor and the vertical lines of the stone-textured wall produces an effect that is bold yet natural. This room is an excellent example of how natural textures can be used to create a modern and deliberate effect. Not to mention, the tones and veins in this wall are guaranteed to catch any designer's eye.

Mixed-Texture Shelf Feature

An alcove serving as a shelf, holding firewood, a wooden decorative ball and antlers.

Mixed textures are one of the most popular recent interior design trends. This alcove feature is a prime example of how different surface textures can bring a room or accent piece to life.

The shelf, which can be used to display attractive keepsakes and ornaments as well as books or coasters, is constructed from white leather-effect panels, a darker leather-effect surface and features a wood-grain effect divider.

The top part of the feature that overhangs the shelf features stone-effect Loft panels, again from our Aura products. When all of these textures appear on the same feature, the result is unique yet sophisticated.

Dark Wall Panels

As skilled interior designers know, dark colors do not necessarily have to be dingy or unwelcoming. The marbled texture of these Loft Dark panels is monotone yet rich, making this conference room feel consummately professional yet luxurious in equal measure.

Combining darker wall panels with small dashes of brighter color — such as the plants, light fitting and wooden shelf in this example — can be the key to making a darker room feel welcoming and inspiring rather than austere.

How To Choose the Best Stone-Textured Panels

Because stone-textured panels are so coveted for their attractive aesthetic and convenience, there are many different suppliers offering these products. It can be very difficult to know which company to choose!

Of course, price is a factor to consider for most people — not many designers are lucky enough to have what we like to call, “blank check budget.” Another essential factor to research is the materials and build quality of decorative panels.

While most manufacturers use a process called High-Pressure-Laminate (or HPL) to fuse surface textures to the panels, this process is more expensive and less environmentally friendly than a more recent technique called Thermally-Fused Laminate (TFL). TFL is cheaper, more environmentally friendly, more versatile and more durable than HPL.

Aura Collection Brings Durability and Affordability for Stone Effect

Here at Panasphere, we construct all of our decorative panels using TFL and pay as much attention to gorgeous and realistic textures as we do to cost, sustainability and durability. Our Aura products specialize in stone textures, from granite to marble to quartz, and each features rich and lifelike tones, patterns and veins.
